International Student Identity Card

The International Student Identity Card (ISIC) is an internationally recognised proof of full-time student status, endorsed by UNESCO. It is useful from the moment you book your flight, and for travel and discounts throughout your course.

How it works

  1. 1

    Check the benefits

Look at discounts available in your destination and on your travel plans.

  2. 2

    Apply with proof of study

Submit your admission or enrolment letter, photograph and identity document to an official issuer.

  3. 3

    Use it abroad

Show the physical or digital card when booking or buying to claim student rates.

What the ISIC card is

ISIC is a photo identity card for full-time students, recognised in over a hundred countries. It is separate from the student ID your university will give you, and is most useful when you travel beyond your own campus or need proof of student status before you arrive.

Where it can help

  • Student fares on some airlines and extra baggage offers
  • Discounts on intercity transport, museums and attractions
  • Offers on software, subscriptions and shopping, online and in store
  • Proof of student status when travelling in other countries during breaks

Who can get one

  • Full-time students at a recognised school, college or university
  • Proof of enrolment or admission, a photograph and an identity document are usually needed
  • The card is typically valid for about one academic year and can be renewed

Is it worth it?

If you plan to travel, fly on student fares or use the discounts listed for your destination, the card can easily repay its fee. If you will mostly stay near campus, your university ID may give you most local student discounts. Check the offers available in your country before buying.
